Winnie pension records

This entry was posted by Jeanette on Friday, 13 March, 2009 at

I was finally able to scan in the Civil War pension records that I bought for Lewis Winnie and his son James Newton Winnie:

Pages 1-12 of the Pension Record for James N. Winnie
Pages 13-41 of the Pension Record of James N. Winnie
Pension Record of Lewis Winnie
Pension Record of Jeremiah Raner

They both enlisted in the 86th New York Infantry Company B out of Jasper, Steuben County, NY. James died from disease shortly after enlisting, and Lewis was discharged in December 1862 due to illness. James was the Winnie’s eldest child, and was 17 at the time of his enlistment.

One of the pensions (or maybe both of them), but I don’t remember which, gives the information that Lewis’ wife Eunice’s maiden name was Raner.

After leaving New York, they lived in both Cumberland and Rhea counties, Tennessee.

    Hello Jeanette,

Hello possible cousin. I wish & hope to here back from you.

Thank You so much for scanning and posting the Jeremiah Raner Civil War Pension file. Also Thanks for the Rootsweb messages. It has been very helpful. Last night I sent you a e-mail. I do not know if you received it. I just received my ancestor Almira M (Raner) Hall’s NE death certificate. It matches well with your information. Almira M Raner’s parents are listed as Joshua Raner (probably Raynor) and (you will like this) MOTHER listed as Hannah VANGILDER. Almira M Raner born 29 March 1829. 1850 Census (Cortlandville, Cortland, NY – Wells Hall household) says Cayuga Co., NY as birth place. In the 1860 Census she is living in Niles, NY, some of her children born in Niles, NY. Almira M Raner (Raynor) married William McHenry Hall, possible son of Wells Hall probably just before the 1850 Census.

    Once again Thank You,
    Debbie Freeman
