As a member of BookCrossing.com, I release books. As a fan of design on a small scale, I wanted to create my own labels. Done.
I made the labels in such a way for others to use them as well. Use Avery Labels Template 5263 or similar, which is the same size (2×4 inches) as BookCrossing’s default blank labels. When you download the .doc document and open it in word, the main text is actually a jpeg image, so that itself can’t be edited. Just go to menu Insert>Text Box, and place it over the black rectangle if you want to personalize the label to yourself. For instance, on mine I have written “Registered by Nnettsplace in 2008″ using the Myriad font size 8. Note to not write “First registered by,” because then it seems as if the book should be re-registered and therefore receive a new BCID. When you open it, you may receive an alert to Disable or Enable macros from the Avery Corporation. I Disable them and am able to continue on with ease.
I based the text off of the “Howdy! Hola! Bonjour! Guten Tag!” label available, with a few edits to my liking. The original file is in Adobe Illustrator 10 (an .ai file).
I find it much easier to give away books, when the possibility awaits that I will be able to see where they have gone.
Not lost … special blank labels (.doc): I’m not lost, … I’m a special book
